Multifunctional Properties of Cyanate Ester Composites with SiO2 Coated Fe3O4 Fillers

Abstract: SiO2 coated Fe3O4 submicrometer spherical particles (a conducting core/insulating shell configuration) are fabricated using a hydrothermal method and are loaded at 10 and 20 vol % into a bisphenol E cyanate ester matrix for synthesis of multifunctional composites. The dielectric constant of the resulting composites is found to be enhanced over a wide frequency and temperature range while the low dielectric loss tangent of the neat cyanate ester polymer is largely preserved up to 160 °C due to the insulating Si… Show more

“…For embedded capacitor applications, the dielectric loss is an essential parameter. The dielectric loss measured at a certain frequency includes polarization loss and conduction loss 44 . The dielectric loss tangent for the M-Fe 3 O 4 /LDPE composites remain below 0.25 at 10 Hz, and the conductivity of the M-Fe 3 O 4 /LDPE composites is also kept at a low value (7 × 10 −11  S/cm).…”

“…[5][6][7][8] Poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO) bres possess light weight, superior dielectric properties (dielectric constant of 3.0 and dielectric loss of 0.001), outstanding specic tensile strength & modulus, excellent thermal stability, and good chemical & ame resistance, [9][10][11][12][13] far exceeding other organic bres. Furthermore, CE resins possess excellent high-temperature mechanical properties, very low wateradsorption, good heat & humidity resistance, preferable dimensional stability and an epoxy-like processability, etc., and have been widely applied in aerospace, electronics, insulations, adhesives and other areas.…”

“…The highly symmetrical crosslinked structure of triazine rings and a few polar groups result in good dielectric properties (dielectric constant of 3.0–4.0 and dielectric loss of 0.005–0.010), which reveals good stability in a wide range of temperature and electric field frequency. Furthermore, a large number of aromatic rings, aryl and heterocyclic linkages and the unique triazine rings make CE resins possess high mechanical strength, excellent heat resistance properties, and high dimensional stabilities . Therefore, CE resins display potential application in radomes and antenna system of aircrafts.…”
