“…Noteworthy, all the r 2 values of Cit-Dy-CSS NPs are higher than those of commercial iron oxide-based T 2 contrast agents (Combidex: 60.0 mM −1 s −1 , Feridex: 93.0 mM −1 s −1 ) and other comparable sized Dy-based NPs (Table S2†). 5,10,26,27,35,47–54 These observations are promising with respect to the potential use of Dy-CSS NPs T 2 CAs. Particularly, high relaxivity CAs are generally considered beneficial as they can allow for the administration of lower doses, ultimately contributing to lower toxicity risks.…”

“…[20][21][22][23] On the other hand, clinically used MRI T 2 CAs are based on iron oxides, which, however, suffer from magnetization saturation at high magnetic fields (greater than 3 T). 24 Dy 3+ is a suitable candidate for high-field T 2 CAs due to its relatively large magnetic moment (10.6µ B ) and short relaxation time, without saturation of the magnetization even at high magnetic fields up to 11.7 T. [25][26][27][28] High-field MRI is gaining increasing attention due to its higher spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio, holding potential for more effective diagnostic imaging. 28,29 Therewith comes the raising demand for suitable high-field T 2 CAs.…”

“…These properties make them suitable for applications in biological imaging, such as fluorescence imaging, bioimaging, and molecular imaging. By incorporating lanthanide-doped nanocrystals into contrast agents, researchers can improve the sensitivity and resolution of imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and optical imaging . Lanthanide-doped nanocrystals can also be used for therapeutic purposes.…”

“…visualize the progression of tumors. [227] Multimodal imaging, including CT, US, MRI, and NIR-II, improved the accuracy of tumor staging by integrating different imaging modes into a hybrid system. [132,[228][229][230][231][232][233] NIR-II PA tomography imaging showed that BTII-DUPA can target actively the prostate-specific membrane antigen-positive prostate tumors in vivo.…”
