Multifunctional EuYVO 4 nanoparticles coated with mesoporous silica

Abstract: a b s t r a c tMesoporous structures are interesting materials for the incorporation of dyes, drugs, and luminescent systems, leading to materials with important multifunctionalities. In a very unique way, these guest/host materials combine the high stability of inorganic systems, new guest-structuring features, and adsorption mechanisms in their well-defined pores. This work evaluates the luminescent properties of rare earth-doped YVO 4 nanoparticles coated with a mesoporous silica shell. The use of two diffe… Show more

“…The Eu 3+ -doped yttrium vanadate (YVO 4 :Eu 3+ ) nanoparticles were prepared by the co-precipitation method [8,15]. Aqueous solutions of Y(NO 3 ) 3 and Eu(NO 3 ) 3 at 0.1 mol l −1 and with pH between 4 and 5 were prepared by dissolving the respective oxides in the presence of nitric acid.…”

“…These levels are designated Stark Levels and have well-known energy as shown by the Dieke diagram, with emissions ranging from the ultraviolet to the infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum [3]. Lanthanide-doped nanomaterials have a wide field of industrial applications; they can be used as nanothermometers [4], lasers [5,6], UVC dielectric barrier discharge lamps [7], and luminescent markers [8,9]. Systematic control of different parameters such as the local symmetry of the lanthanide ion, the chemical environment around this ion, the host phonon energy, and the solubility of the lanthanide ion in the matrix is necessary for all these applications.…”

“…Além disso, em geral esses materiais híbridos têm propriedades mecânicas superiores e melhor processabilidade do que complexos puramente moleculares de lantanídeos [68]. Nanopartículas de YVO4 dopadas com Eu 3+ são um forte candidato para aplicações em fotônica porque sua estrutura permite grande solubilidade do íon terra rara e, consequentemente, alta eficiência de luminescência devida a excitação do íon TR 3+ via grupo vanadato [76].
