Multifunctional cotton fabric loaded with Ce doped ZnO nanorods

Abstract: Ce doped ZnO (Ce-ZnO) nano materials with different Ce molar content were prepared via chemical precipitation method. The morphology of Ce-ZnO was rod like and the size was decreased with the increase of doping amount, and the size of Ce-ZnO was 180 nm in length and 40 nm in diameter when the doping amount is 2.5%. All the samples were treated on cotton fabric, the laden fabric has excellent performance on hydrophobicity, UV resistance and antibacterial activity. The contact angle of fabric loaded with ZnO was… Show more

“…[4,5] However, the response range to visible light of ZnO nanoparticles is narrow and the photogenerated electrons and holes are prone to recombination easily, which have restricted the application of pure ZnO in actual application extremely. [6] Up to date, the noble metal [7][8][9][10] and other nanoparticles with narrow band gap such CdS, [11] V 2 O 5, [12] Bi 2 O 3, [13] C 3 N 4 [14,15] ZnO nanomaterials to improve its photo response range to visible light. [16] But it should not to be ignored that although these nanomaterials can improve the photocatalytic activity of ZnO, but their high cost or potential heavy metals pollution restricts their applications.…”

“…To avoid these limitations, cotton fabrics have been treated for enhanced hydrophobicity and antibacterial activity [1519]. The surface of cotton fabrics has been reported to functionalize with Ce doped ZnO nanorods to enhance UV resistance and antibacterial activity [20]. The combined hydrophobicity and antibacterial activity have been achieved on fabrics treated with Cu nanoparticles doped silica-based sols [21].…”
