Multifunctional antiferroelectric MLCC with high‐energy‐storage properties and large field‐induced strain

Abstract: Multifunctional antiferroelectric (Pb0.92−xBa0.05La0.02Dyx)(Zr0.68Sn0.27Ti0.05)O3 multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) was prepared successfully by the tape‐casting method. The MLCC with 10‐thick layers exhibits compact structure, excellent energy‐storage, and strain properties. For energy‐storage performance, the pulsed discharge current reveals that the stored energy can be released in a quite short time of about 600 ns. The maximum discharge energy density was obtained in the sample with x = 0.04 at 300 kV/c… Show more

“…Authors however, do not often report the concomitant large strain associated with AFE/FE transitions which may prove detrimental to the longevity of a device in service due to mechanical fatigue during charge discharge. 194 Nd-doped BF-BT MLs exhibit the largest W rec $ 6:74 J cm À3 with high η $ 77% in BF-BT based systems but we note that recent unpublished data by the present authors have now surpassed these values with W rec > 10 J/cm 3 . This latter value exceeds that reported by Li et al 194 for (Bi,Sr)TiO 3 doped NBT MLs (> 9 J/cm 3 Þ.…”

“…However, the film surface cannot stay flat while using a doctor blade for tape casting. Today, roll‐to‐roll tape casting is a fundamental fabrication process, which uses a double doctor blade to package the multilayered capacitors . A BTBNT‐based suspension slurry is cast on a moving PET film under air pressure conditions.…”

“…However, more attention is paid to the thick film prepared by traditional sol-gel method and ceramic samples prepared by secondary sintering method [11][12]. Among numerous AFEs, some polymer matrix composite (PMC) AFEs have many advantages, and because of their good energy storage densities and they also have been widely studied and applied in the above fields [13][14][15][16][17]. Since the dielectric constants of PMCs are usually low (less than 10), their excellent energy storage performance mainly comes from their ultra-high working voltage (more than 5000 kV cm -1 ) [18][19] Meanwhile, considering the actual application, due to the low operating temperature, slow polarization switch speed, and high operating voltage in the actual work, its application is limited [20][21].…”
