Multidrug analysis of pharmaceutical and urine matrices by on-line coupled capillary electrophoresis and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry

Abstract: The present work illustrates potentialities of CE hyphenated with MS/MS for the simultaneous determination and identification of a mixture of simultaneously acting drugs in pharmaceutical and biological matrices. Here, the hyphenation was provided by ESI interface, while the MS/MS technique was based on the triple quadrupole configuration. Three drugs, namely pheniramine, phenylephrine, and paracetamol were determined and identified with high reliability due to their characterization in three different dimensi… Show more

“…This method is the most efficient separation technique available for the analysis of both large and small molecules. There are six types of capillary electro separation available but the most commonly used technique seems to be CZE, which is widely used for analyses of various substances, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (either in formulations or biological fluids), drug counter ions . Taking this into account we decided to use this method to detection and separation of compounds with biological activity.…”

“…Marakova et al. assessed potentialities of CE‐ESI‐MS/MS with the triple quadrupole configuration for the simultaneous determination and identification of a mixture of simultaneously acting drugs in pharmaceutical and biological matrices . The Beckman Coulter CE‐ESI system with a porous tip sheathless interface was optimized for the characterization of pharmaceutical glycoproteins .…”

“…Maraáková et al [74] have illustrated the potential of CE-ESI-MS/MS using the QqQ configuration. CZE-ESI-QqQ can also be applied for (i) the investigation of weak associated species of the drugs and (ii) monitoring of predicted (targeted) compounds derived from the original drugs, for example drug impurities or metabolites (when standards of targets are missing).…”
