“…To our knowledge, there is little data on the McGill Pain Questionnaire or any other multidimensional pain scale in populations of 85‐year‐old subjects. Nevertheless, the McGill Pain Questionnaire may be a reasonable reference for new instrument development because its use has been reported by several investigators of pain in older people, 18,19 and a large body of evidence has been available from its use in younger populations for many years. Findings of this study indicate that the GPM and the McGill Pain Questionnaire capture similar constructs with correlations that are highly statistically significant.…”

For patients whose underlying pain source is not remediable or only partially treatable, an interdisciplinary assessment and treatment strategy is the best approach 18,19 . When specialized services or skilled procedures are indicated, referral to an appropriate specialist is necessary.…”

“…[87] Although the MPQ Short Form is less time-consuming to administer, it does not evaluate pain location (as in the long form). The short form has been successfully used in pain clinics for older adults over several years, [56] although it should be noted that neither version of the MPQ has been systematically evaluated for use among persons with cognitive impairment.…”
