Multidisciplinary management of macroglobulinaemia or Waldenström’s disease

Abstract

Waldenströ m macroglobulinaemia (WM) is a rare lowgrade lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by a monoclonal lymphoplasmacytic proliferation with serum monoclonal immunoglobulin (IgM). Clinical manisfestations and laboratory abnormalities are related to direct tumour infiltration and to the amount and specific properties of the monoclonal IgM. A collaborative management involving various specialists is often required due to diverse clinical manifestations, either neurological or mimicking an auto-immune disease. Such collaboration is also useful when determining and coordinating the therapeutic strategy.
