A web GIS (WGIS) system for the Brazilian Amazon, named ImazonGeo and based on open source and public domain data, is presented. ImazonGeo was built following three principles. First, the system is based on Spatial Data Infrastructure architecture and web interface built using free software and public domain data. Second, we went beyond visualization of maps and spatial queries by providing information obtained with spatial analysis models. To do that, we designed a database that stores the results of previously defined spatial analyses and developed customized reports and query tools to facilitate fast access of information by end-users. Finally, the system is application-oriented in the areas of forest monitoring, conservation and forest law enforcement, meaning that it aims to contribute to support the protection of Brazilian Amazon forests. We illustrate these principles by presenting ImazonGeo's technology, architecture, content and tools. Moreover, we present two successful cases to demonstrate how the system is being used. We conclude the paper discussing the challenges and potential solutions to turning our WGIS-SDI system into an internet hub of geoinformation about the Brazilian Amazon.

Technical Commission IIKEY WORDS: building evacuation route modelling, multicriteria decision making, analytical hierarchy process, 3D visualization ABSTRACT:The most common building evacuation approach currently applied is to have evacuation routes planned prior to these emergency events. These routes are usually the shortest and most practical path from each building room to the closest exit. The problem with this approach is that it is not adaptive. It is not responsively configurable relative to the type, intensity, or location of the emergency risk. Moreover, it does not provide any information to the affected persons or to the emergency responders while not allowing for the review of simulated hazard scenarios and alternative evacuation routes. In this paper we address two main tasks. The first is the modelling of the spatial risk caused by a hazardous event leading to choosing the optimal evacuation route for a set of options. The second is to generate a 3D visual representation of the model output. A multicriteria decision making (MCDM) approach is used to model the risk aiming at finding the optimal evacuation route. This is achieved by using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) on the criteria describing the different alternative evacuation routes. The best route is then chosen to be the alternative with the least cost. The 3D visual representation of the model displays the building, the surrounding environment, the evacuee's location, the hazard location, the risk areas and the optimal evacuation pathway to the target safety location. The work has been performed using ESRI's ArcGIS. Using the developed models, the user can input the location of the hazard and the location of the evacuee. The system then determines the optimum evacuation route and displays it in 3D.

AbstraktAnalyticko-hierarchický proces (AHP) je široce využívaným přístupem v oblasti rozhodovacích procesů, hodnocení a skupinovém rozhodování. Je oblíben zejména pro svá specifika související s konzistentností hodnotitelových rozhodnutí a přístupu k dekompozici daného problému. AHP a jeho formy jsou také využívány v oblasti geografických informačních systémů (GIS) a to při řešení mnoha různých problémů. V tomto článku je AHP použit jako metoda výběru možných hodnotících kritérií a stanovení vah kritérií pro hodnocení Web GIS aplikací interaktivně prezentujících zájmové body a nástrojů sloužících k tvorbě tohoto druhu Web GIS aplikací. V rámci výzkumu byly stanoveny váhy kritérií dotazováním hodnotitelů rozdělených do kategorií dle jejich vztahu k tvorbě a využití Web GIS aplikací. Proces hodnocení je vztažen ke konkrétní Web GIS mapové aplikaci. Článek konfrontuje výsledky šetření s výstupy předešlých prací hledajících nejvhodnější nástroj pro tvorbu podobných Web GIS aplikací. Součástí článku je také zhodnocení konzistentnosti rozhodnutí hodnotitelů vzhledem ke stanoveným kategoriím.Klíčová slova: AHP, hodnocení, konzistentnost, rozhodování, Web GIS. AbstractThe Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a widely used approach in the field of decision making, evaluation and group decision making processes. It is popular especially for its specifics related to consistency of an evaluator's decisions and an approach to decomposition of a certain problem. AHP and its forms are also exploited in the area of geographic information systems (GIS) while solving variety of multiple problems. In this article the role of AHP is a method of determining a set of criteria and weights of the criteria of evaluating Web GIS applications which are presenting points of interest and of evaluating the development tools. Within the research weights of criteria were defined by interviewing evaluators divided into categories according to their relationships to creation and usage of Web GIS applications.
