Multicomponent (4C) towed-streamer design for high signal fidelity recording

Abstract: A multicomponent (4C) towed-streamer that measures not only scalar pressure wavefields, but also the three components of P-wave particle motion, was proposed by Robertsson et al. (2008). These new measurements may be used to perform joint interpolation and deghosting of the pressure wavefield, and open the possibility to reconstruct the seismic wavefield at any point between streamers using both pressure and the crossline component of the pressure gradient. To be able to put these proposed applications in prac… Show more

“…), or 4C streamers (Goujon et al . ) to apply a pressure–motion summation such as the one (PZ) already developed for seabed acquisition. The two sensor types that are summed may be hydrophone and geophone (Z for 2C) or hydrophone and accelerometers (Y–Z for 3C and X–Y–Z for 4C).…”

“…The three main methods in use are: dual/multi-sensor OBC/OBN (Ocean Bottom Cable/Node) or towed streamer; over-under streamers and slanted/multilevel streamers. The dual/multi-sensor technique takes advantage of the polarity difference between the hydrophone and the velocity sensor and has been widely used (Berni 1985;Barr and Sanders 1989;Barr 1997;Carlson et al 2007;Tenghamn et al 2007;Long et al 2008;Cambois et al 2009a;Goujon et al 2012).
