Multicentre evaluation of Erytra Eflexis®, a benchtop fully automated analyser with a compact design for routine use in blood transfusion laboratory

Abstract: Objectives: Evaluation of the compact benchtop Erytra Eflexis ® automated analyser was performed at three health centres representing a range of routine transfusion workload. Background: Automation instruments with the simplicity and flexibility adequate for small-to mid-sized blood transfusion services are an unmet need. Methods: Performance in pre-transfusion testing (2109 ABO/D, 382 Rh/K phenotype, 2001 antibody screening, 113 antibody identification, 151 DAT, 88 extended phenotype; 655 cross matching) in co… Show more

“…In addition to improvement of efficiency, documentation, traceability and archiving of results, the most prominent advantage of ABGA is recognized as the accuracy of blood group identification. Nevertheless, when blood samples containing weak antigen/antibody, UAb or subtype blood are screened, the ABGA may misjudge or fail to detect in blood group typing 9 .…”

“…Erytra Eflexis (Eflexis; Grifols, Barcelona, Spain) is an immunohematology autoanalyzer suitable for pre-transfusion routine testing in small-to-medium sized laboratories [ 1 , 2 ]. Ajou University Hospital, Suwon, Korea, was the first to introduce Eflexis analyzers in Korea in 2019.…”

“…Ajou University Hospital, Suwon, Korea, was the first to introduce Eflexis analyzers in Korea in 2019. There are several reports on the performance and reliability of Erytra or Erytra Eflexis in pre-transfusion testing [ 1 - 4 ]. However, there is a paucity of comprehensive studies evaluating failed cases of ABO grouping using Eflexis or autoanalyzers from other companies [ 5 - 9 ].…”

“…It has also been shown to have reliable efficacy compared with microplate and solid‐phase technologies in other automated platforms . Diagnostic Grifols' Erytra Eflexis is a newer, midsized, also gel test–based, automated instrument that has been in use throughout European Union countries since 2017 and has been demonstrated to be a suitable instrument for performing immunohematology tests . The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires crossover validation of new instruments to a predicate device already on the market for a similar intended use.…”
