Multicenter study of pediatric Epstein‐Barr virus–negative monomorphic post solid organ transplant lymphoproliferative disorders

Abstract: Background Pediatric Epstein‐Barr virus–negative monomorphic post solid organ transplant lymphoproliferative disorder [EBV(−)M‐PTLD] comprises approximately 10% of M‐PTLD. No large multi‐institutional pediatric‐specific reports on treatment and outcome are available. Methods A multi‐institutional retrospective review of solid organ recipients diagnosed with EBV(−)M‐PTLD aged ≤21 years between 2001 and 2020 in 12 centers in the United States and United Kingdom was performed, including demographics, staging, tre… Show more

“…The disease is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) driven in 90% of the cases. [1][2][3] The pathology exists as a spectrum from non-destructive changes through polymorphic lesions to monomorphic disease indistinguishable from sporadic lymphoma. 4,5 The course of the disease ranges from localised lymphadenopathy to rapidly progressive fulminant disease, defined below.…”

“…Post‐transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality following paediatric solid organ transplantation (SOT). The disease is Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) driven in 90% of the cases 1–3 . The pathology exists as a spectrum from non‐destructive changes through polymorphic lesions to monomorphic disease indistinguishable from sporadic lymphoma 4,5 .…”
