Abstract-By an increasing expansion of multimedia services and group communication applications, the need for multicast routing to respond to multicast requests in wireless mesh networks is felt more than before. One of the main challenges in multi-channel multi-radio wireless mesh networks is the efficient use of the capacity of channels as well as load balance in network. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for building a multicast tree, namely, Load balanced Multicast routing with Genetic Algorithm (LM-GA). The purpose of this algorithm is to construct a multicast tree for requested sessions in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks (MCMR WMNs) regarding load balance in channels through minimizing the maximum amount of channels utilization. The results show the efficiency of LM-GA in distribution of load in the channels of the network with finding near-optimal solutions, and also an increase in the network performance while avoiding creation of bottlenecks.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) is emerging as a promising technology platform for future generation wireless networking. It has distinct technical advantages over other available wireless technologies. However, the increasing requirement of smart users drives heavy data traffic in WMNs and hence their load management becomes crucial for efficient network operation. Smarter load management also leads to higher WMN reliability, enhanced throughput, scalability and network availability. This paper provides a detailed investigation of various load management techniques for WMNs proposed so far that will enable us to better understand load balancing and associated challenges.

Multicast communication is an important service in wireless mesh networks (WMNs). It covers a broad range of applications, including data distribution, video conferencing, and distance learning. In this paper, we discuss the issue of bandwidth guaranteed multicast routing in multi-channel multi-radio WMNs. The problem of our concern is to construct a tree per multicast session such that the cost of the system, which is defined as the amount of total consumed bandwidth, is minimized. In order to solve the problem efficiently, we design Bandwidth Guaranteed Minimum Cost Tree construction (BGMCT) algorithm. Our algorithm yields cost-effective solutions as it exploits the wireless broadcast advantage (WBA) property of the wireless medium. In the proposed algorithm, we have developed two strategies for constructing minimum cost trees. Firstly, the number of the relay nodes in each tree is minimized. Secondly, the amount of overlapping between the shortest paths which connect different destinations of each session to its source node, is taken into account. The simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms existing solutions.
