Multiband Superconductivity Due to the Electron–LO–Phonon Interaction in Strontium Titanate and on a SrTiO3/LaAlO3 Interface

Abstract: In strontium titanate, the Fröhlich electron -LO-phonon interaction dominates the electron response and can also provide superconductivity. Because of high LO-phonon frequencies in SrTiO 3 , the superconducting system is non-adiabatic. We demonstrate that the dielectric function approach is an adequate theoretical method for superconductivity in SrTiO 3 and on the SrTiO 3 -LaAlO 3 interface. The critical temperatures are calculated using realistic material parameters. The obtained critical temperatures are in … Show more

“…The non-parabolic dispersion in SrTiO 3 leads to a rapidly increasing density of states in the range of energies corresponding to Fermi energies for densities up to n ∼ 10 20 cm −3 . This leads to better quantitative agreement of the calculated T c with experimental data than in our preceding work [12]. The contribution of acoustic phonons results in an increase of T c about 25% with a shift of the maximum of superconducting dome to higher densities.…”

“…Our use of a model where interaction with longitudinal optical phonons dominates the pairing has some support from a paper by Klimin et al [16], who, using a dielectric approach to pairing, find that such phonons dominate the pairing. However, from their paper it is not clear to me the relative importance of the three types of longitudinal polar optical phonons in their theory.…”
