Multiband loop antenna design for mobile devices

Abstract: The design of a novel microstrip‐fed planar antenna for mobile devices operating within the GSM/PCS/DCS/UMTS band is proposed. Besides covering the WLAN, WiBro, and WiMAX spectra, its multiband features are also capable of operating in the GPS/GLONASS and MSS bands if navigation and satellite telecommunication applications are required. Impedance matching for these cases are simply achieved by tuning the slit embedded in the ground plane directly beneath the microstrip feed line. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.… Show more

“…Therefore, it is difficult to only cover either the CDMA or GSM band using a compact loop structure as an antenna element. Arranging a loop antenna in a small volume with good impedance matching is a challenging task that is discussed in many publications [9][10][11].…”

“…Frequently, it is assumed that the loss resistance of loosely harvesting antenna equals the high-frequency loss resistance of a right copper wire of the same length as the loop and of the same current distribution [31,32,33,34,35,36] as shown in Figure 6. In the case of a uniform current distribution, the high-frequency resistance is calculated as…”
