Multiband Fractal-Like Antennas

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, new multiband fractal-like antennas are proposed. The proposed multiband antenna design is based on a methodology that utilizes the self transformation principle of fractallike rectangular profiles to generate multiband operation. The proposed monopole-type antennas are built on a partial ground plane and fed through a microstrip feed line. The analytical design procedures are straightforward and can be applied to any practical antenna structure to operate at multiple preselected bands. … Show more

“…In other words, this may be conveniently considered as an array of arrays. Some recent research on Sierpinski carpet arrays, multiband arrays, fractal ultra-wideband arrays, super wideband antennas gives promising and excellent results for the application of fractal concept in antenna arrays [11][12][13][14][15][16]. The different types of fractal antenna arrays include cantor recipe set for linear fractal antenna array, planar Sierpinski carpet array, triangular, square and hexagonal antenna arrays.…”

“…Reviewing recently published literatures have suggested numerous approaches to realize more than one frequency band out of a single antenna module. As, for example, introducing artificial magnetic conductor [8], implementing fractal structures [9], cutting slots of different shapes and sizes on the radiating patch [10,11], constructing electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure [12], adding stubs or parasitic elements [13], feeding through coplanar waveguide [14], using defected/reformed ground plane [15] and so on. The air exposure of the substrate by etching out the part of copper layer is an efficient and easy to apply technique in the design and fabrication process.…”
