IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS. But a fine tuning of their parameters is needed in order to obtain a high resolution image of the fault in the time-frequency domain, and they also require a much higher processing effort than traditional diagnosis techniques, such as the Fourier Transform (FT). The new method proposed in this paper addresses both problems using the Gabor analysis of the current via the chirp z-transform (CZT), which can be easily adapted to generate high resolution time-frequency stamps of different types of faults. In this paper, it is used to diagnose broken bars of an IM using the current during a startup transient. This new approach is theoretically introduced and experimentally validated with a 1.1 kW commercial motor in faulty and healthy conditions.

In this paper we investigate the relation between lateral crossbite disorders and the sounds generated by the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). TMJ vibrations are recorded clinically by palpation and auscultation and also electronically by accelerometers. TMJ signals are filtered, amplified, digitized and stored on a computer. Based on joint time-frequency moments calculated from evolutionary spectrum, sounds are categorized into four classes. Palpation, auscultation and time-frequency classification findings are presented.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has become a very popular method for high data rate wireless communications because of its advantages over single carrier modulation schemes on multipath, frequency selective fading channels. However, intercarrier interference, due to Doppler frequency shifts, and multipath fading severely degrade the performance of OFDM systems. Estimation of channel parameters is required at the receiver. In this paper, we present a channel modeling and estimation method based on the time-frequency representation of the received signal. The discrete evolutionary transform provides a time-frequency procedure to obtain a complete characterization of the multipath, fading, and frequency selective channels. Simulations are used to illustrate the performance of the proposed procedure and to compare it with other time-varying channel estimation techniques.
