Multi-wavelength Raman LIDAR for Use in Determining the Microphysical, Optical, and Radiative Properties of Mixed Aerosols

Abstract: The Multi-wavelength Raman LIDAR (MRL) system was developed to enable a better understanding of the complex properties of aerosols in the atmosphere. In this study, the microphysical, optical, and radiative properties of mixed aerosols were retrieved using the discrete aerosol observation products from the MRL. The dust mixing ratio, which is the proportion of dust particles to the total mixed, was derived using the particle depolarization ratio. It was employed in the retrieval of backscattering and extinctio… Show more

“…The Light Detec tion and Ranging (LIDAR) research groups have been conducted to measure the vertical resolved profiles of optical properties/microphysical properties such as the extinction coefficient, the backscatter coefficient, the effective radius, and the single scattering albedo (i.e. Lee et al, 2015;Shin et al, 2015Shin et al, and 2013Noh et al, 2012Noh et al, , 2009Noh et al, , and 2008Kim et al, 2010). Aircraft measurement campaigns also have been carried out to measure distributions of the properties of atmospheric aerosol for different atmospheric layer .…”
