Mining developments in alpine coal mining areas result in slow or rapid ground subsidence, which can lead to melting and collapse of permafrost. This paper integrated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images and satellite-based SAR interferometry images to monitor intensive surface mining subsidence during reclamation. Digital Surface Model (DSM) acquired from UAV images was first used to evaluate the changes of the reclamation scheme on the microtopography carried out by slope and the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of difference (DoD). The monitoring results showed that the slope had been reduced from over 30 degrees to under 15 degrees after the terrain had been reshaped. The DoD map revealed the distribution of main extraction areas and landfill areas. To further monitor the surface subsidence after local terrain adjustment, the Permanent Scatterer Interferometry (PS-InSAR) method was used to reveal the surface subsidence characteristics of the mine site before and after reclamation. The maximum cumulative subsidence ranged from −772.3 to 1183 mm based on 21 Sentinel-1A images in three years. Within a year of terrain reshaping, uplift and subsidence still occurred at hills and pit side slopes, following the nearly equal subsidence rate. The experimental results showed that the slope reshaping and vegetation recovery had a limited impact on the reduction of the ground subsidence in a short period. Therefore, on this basis, a combination of UAV and PS-InSAR methods can be used to continue monitoring time series subsidence in alpine mines.

Bản đồ hiện trạng sử dụng đất đóng vai trò quan trọng trong công tác kiểm kê và định hướng quy hoạch sử dụng đất đai. Tuy nhiên, các phương pháp xây dựng bản đồ hiện trạng sử dụng đất giải đoán từ ảnh vệ tinh trước đây thường sử dụng dữ liệu ảnh quang học nên dễ bị ảnh hưởng bởi mây. Vì vậy, mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là ứng dụng ảnh SAR (study applied radar) để xây dựng bản đồ hiện trạng sử dụng đất. Trong nghiên cứu này, chuỗi ảnh SAR theo thời gian được dùng để thành lập bản đồ hiện trạng sử dụng đất, dựa trên cơ sở sự thay đổi giá trị tán xạ ngược VH (backscatter values, dB) của các kiểu sử dụng đất theo thời gian kết hợp với kết quả khảo sát thực địa. Kết quả nghiên cứu đã phân loại được 6 loại sử dụng đất: đất trồng lúa, cây lâu năm, sông rạch, đất ở, đất nuôi trồng thủy sản và rừng. Kết quả đánh giá cho thấy độ chính xác toàn cục đạt 89,4% và hệ số Kappa 0,79. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy việc sử dụng ảnh SAR đa thời gian trong xây dựng bản đồ hiện trạng sử dụng đất có khả năng ứng dụng cao.

The Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion (SNWD) Project, known as one of the greatest hydraulic projects of China, undertakes most of domestic and industrial water use in the Beijing-Tianjin area, as well as a part of ecological water use. The whole canal should be monitored to ensure a continuous water supply for water-receiving areas. Compared with traditional ground-based monitoring tools limited by the low distribution density, intensive labor force, and huge cost, the satellite synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) with wide coverage, highfrequency revisiting, and low cost is more suitable for monitoring large-scale infrastructures. In this study, we employed the Sentinel-1 data to monitor the canal of the Middle Route of the SNWD Project within Henan Province. The deformation rates along the canal were obtained by using persistent scatterer InSAR, from which a total of 20 deformed canal sections and seven suspected deformed canal sections were identified. Among them, the Shahe aqueduct is overall stable except for the Shahe Beam Aqueduct and Lushanpo Landing Aqueduct. The Yuzhou-Changge canal passes through a subsidence funnel with a maximum deformation rate of about -20 mm/year. The InSAR-derived deformation coincides well with the in-situ leveling measurements over the Yuzhou-Changge canal. Their correlation is 0.95 and the root mean square error of their differences is 2.41 mm/year. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of satellite InSAR for monitoring large-scale hydraulic engineering. It can be combined with ground leveling to achieve overall investigations and detailed monitoring, largely improving the efficiency and cost of the current ground monitoring system.
