Multi-modal Visualization and Search for Text and Prosody Annotations

Abstract: We present ICARUS for intonation, an interactive tool to browse and search automatically derived descriptions of fundamental frequency contours. It offers access to tonal features in combination with other annotation layers like part-ofspeech, syntax or coreference and visualizes them in a highly customizable graphical interface with various playback functions. The built-in search allows multilevel queries, the construction of which can be done graphically or textually, and includes the ability to search F 0 c… Show more

“…Unlike the majority of other systems in recent years, we developed ICARUS 32 (Gärtner et al, 2013) as a standalone desktop application for visualization and example-based search 33 with a custom query evaluation system and no indexing or dependency on another database technology. Initially designed for querying dependency treebanks it underwent multiple extensions to make it compatible with annotations for coreference and prosody 34 (Gärtner et al, 2015) and also to incorporate automatic error mining as a means of exploration . Its bracket-style query language is similar to PML-TQ but lacks quantifiers and a dedicated section for result preparation instructions.…”

“…ICARUS entstand als Werkzeug zur Visualisierung und beispielbasierten Suche auf Dependenz-Baumbanken und wurde kontinuierlich erweitert, um sowohl Annotationen für Koreferenz (Gärtner et al 2014), als auch Prosodie (Gärtner et al 2015) Abb. 6.5: Exploration der tonalen Realisierung von engen Appositionen.…”
