Multi-level simulation of Internet of Things on smart territories

Abstract: In this paper, a methodology is presented and employed for simulating the Internet of Things (IoT). The requirement for scalability, due to the possibly huge amount of involved sensors and devices, and the heterogeneous scenarios that might occur, impose resorting to sophisticated modeling and simulation techniques. In particular, multi-level simulation is regarded as a main framework that allows simulating large-scale IoT environments while keeping high levels of detail, when it is needed. We consider a use c… Show more

“…Discrete-event simulation enables a hypothetical system to be studied under a wide variety of conditions and provide averaged results from running the same scenario over many replications. Dyk et al [51] and D'Angelo et al [87,88] have developed simulation systems for the IoT. D'Angelo's model, for example, addresses scalability using a multi-level simulation approach where both coarse and fine grained models are combined.…”

“…Here, the IoT based 5G system provides us to design secure transport. According to [27,28], the proliferation of IoT in 5G applications dominates the current communication systems. Despite many security solutions, the multi-level security model is included in the 5G network due to IoT proliferation in vehicular communication.…”

“…[49][50][51] Conversely, in a decentralized (rural) area, self-configuring opportunistic solutions might be preferred, possibly not strictly dependent on the presence of a classic networking infrastructure. 5 Whatever the distributed software solution, the main idea is that the IoT represents the substrate to build smart services to foster the creation of "smart territories.
