Multi-layer Transport Network Slicing with Hard and Soft Isolation

Abstract: We validate the deployment of isolated transport network slices in IP over DWDM network. To this end, an isolated transport network slice is deployed using multi-layer isolation mechanisms based on OpenConfig and ONF Transport API.

“…In [13], the authors describe the FlexE technology to realize the physical isolation with showcases for different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, which enables the flexible hard isolation. The authors in [14] present an end-to-end architecture to provide transport network slices deployed over multi-layer IP over DWDM networks, and several degrees of isolation (from hard to soft) required and implemented in the requested transport network slice. Based on this research, we have explored a more customized hybrid isolation scheme.…”

“…slots of FlexE technology) which is referred to physical isolation (hard isolation) [13], or inherits traditional virtual network scheme to achieve soft isolation based on logical channels (e.g. MPLS, VPN, VLAN or custom data fields) [14]. These two isolation strategies can guarantee different network isolation levels, but there are few research to achieve flexible isolation based on these two isolation scheme.…”
