Multi-height observations of magnetoacoustic cut-off frequency in a sunspot atmosphere

Abstract: Context. The cut-off frequency of magnetoacoustic gravity (MAG) waves could be decreased by the inclined magnetic field, and therefore, low-frequency waves could penetrate into the upper atmosphere. Aims. We observe the distribution of the cut-off frequency of compressive waves at various heights and reconstruct the magnetic field inclination, according to the MAG wave theory in a stratified atmosphere permeated by a uniform magnetic field. Methods. We analysed the emission intensity oscillations of sunspot AR… Show more

“…It has already been established that the period corresponding to the highest power of sunspot oscillations decreases with the distance from the umbra centre in both intensity oscillations (e.g. Sych & Nakariakov 2008;Yuan et al 2014) and Doppler shift oscillations (Maurya et al 2013), and in their combination (Kobanov et al 2013). It was also found that the instant oscillation period varies with the amplitude .…”

“…For investigating statistical properties of the intensity variations in different channels, we selected two square regions of interest (ROI 1 and 2) shown in Φ = −3.98 • ). This sunspot showed well pronounced 3-min oscillations which were previously detected with SDO/AIA (Reznikova et al 2012;Yuan et al 2014;Deres & Anfinogentov 2015).…”
