“…Therefore, the disadvantages of adding HCl to the HNO 3 acid digestion may outweigh the advantages, depending on the application and the ICP-MS equipment that is available. Because Cl ion is retained in the final sample matrix, interferences arise in the determination of 51 V (99.8% relative isotopic abundance), 52 Cr (83.8% relative isotopic abundance) and 75 As (100% relative isotopic abundance) during ICP-MS determination, due to the formation of the polyatomic ions 35 Cl 16 O, 35 Cl 16 O 1 H + or 40 Ar 12 C + and 40 Ar 35 Cl, respectively (Falciani et al, 2000). The ICP-MS instruments used in this study are equipped with dynamic reaction cell (Health Canada) and collision cell (Environment Canada) technologies, which assisted in minimizing the effect of the polyatomic ions of 51 V, 52 Cr, 56 Fe and 75 As.…”

“…ICP-MS has emerged as a useful technique for trace analysis of soil owing to its multi elements capability, high detection power and low sample consumption [21]. The drawback of these techniques is that the solid sample required to be transformed into solution prior to the determination of the metal content [20].…”

“…A method of digestion is developed for the analysis of the total sulphur of mine tailings by ICP, which provides better accuracy and precision. ICP has emerged as a useful technique in analysis of soil for its multi-element analysis capability, high detection power, and low sample consumption (Falcina et al 2000). However, sample preparation is still a major factor in uncertainties involved with the analytical results (Al-Harahsheha et al 2009).…”
