The purpose of the article is to answer the question of how the challenges and problems of climate change translate into the realm of institutional solutions and strategic management at the local level. Design/methodology/approach: The article uses the method of analysis and criticism of the literature, making an analytical-synthetic account of the state of knowledge to date on the topic presented. In terms of processing the collected data, inductive and deductive, descriptive and monographic reasoning methods were used. Findings: Long-term strategies and investments in climate change adaptation as part of strategic management at the local level are essential to protect residents and urban infrastructure from the negative consequences of extreme weather. Practical implications: The presented study can help local government units make effective decisions related to environmental management at the local level. Social implications: The analysis presented can help in the process of identifying the benefits of strategic management with climate change adaptation issues. Originality/value: The presented study represents a new approach to interpreting the assumptions of environmental management systems in the context of supporting climate change adaptation activities from the perspective of strategic management in organizations and local government units.

The overuse of pesticides in agriculture poses significant threats to human health and the environment. This study addresses the issue by proposing a hybrid multi‐criteria decision‐making (MCDM) method, utilizing the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), to select the most suitable pesticide removal method for drinking water treatment. Focusing on the priority and selection of treatment options for specific pesticide groups, such as diuron and cypermethrin, based on toxicity and physicochemical properties, the study concludes that nanofiltration is best option for diuron removal, while granular activated carbon adsorption is effective for cypermethrin. The innovative hybrid MCDM (AHP + TOPSIS and AHP + VIKOR) approach, unprecedented in assessing pesticide removal methods for drinking water treatment, proves promising in ranking treatment processes for pesticides. The study emphasizes the serious consequences of excessive pesticide use, highlights treatment solutions like NF and GAC adsorption, and introduces cutting‐edge hybrid MCDM techniques for selection treatment process that meet technical, economical, and environmental requirements. All of these factors combine to provide a novel approach not only used to select the best option from alternatives, but also to prioritize alternative processes in drinking water treatment at pesticide removal practices.

Overuse of pesticides in the agriculture sector has resulted in many problems related to human health and environmental issues. Most of the pesticides reach aquatic bodies through agricultural runoff, transportation through air, and seepage through the soil. To lessen the hazards pesticide usage poses to the environment and public health, pesticides must be removed from drinking water sources. Today, choosing the best treatment process is a difficult challenge for water authorities, especially in developing nations because of its complexity. This study proposes a hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which combines the order preference technique similar to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) and the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) to choose the most appropriate method for pesticide removal in drinking water treatment. The goal of this approach is to prioritize and choose treatment options for different pesticide groups. To represent different pesticide groups, diuron, and cypermethrin were selected based on toxicity, worldwide occurrence, persistence, and physicochemical properties. The results of all MCDM techniques show that nanofiltration is the best alternative for diuron removal and granular activated carbon adsorption is the most appropriate process for cypermethrin removal. Hybrid MCDM techniques is the best method to choose the treatment technologies to comply with technical, financial, and environmental requirements. The assessment of pesticide removal methods using hybrid AHP/MCDM approach has never been performed before in drinking water treatment, and it has been shown to be a promising way for ranking treatment processes for pesticides.
