Multi-Class Procedure for Analysis of 50 Antibacterial Compounds in Eggshells Using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: In this work, for the first time, Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC–MS/MS) method was developed for qualitative and quantitative analysis of veterinary antibiotics (cephalosporins, diaminopyrimidines, fluoro(quinolones), lincosamides, macrolides, penicillins, pleuromutilins, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, and sulfones) in hen eggshells. The sample preparation method is based on a liquid–liquid extraction with a mixture of metaphosphoric acid, ascorbic acid, EDTA disodiu… Show more

“…The concentrations of ENR, CIP, and LIN in the eggshells were determined using a previously reported sample preparation procedure ( Gbylik-Sikorska et al., 2021 ). Sample preparation of the whole egg, egg yolk, and egg white was performed using a method described by Błądek et al.…”

“…There are many methods of detecting heavy metals, antibiotics, pesticides, and toxins, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, 12,13 liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, 22 graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, 23 and electrochemical sensors 24,25 . All of these methods can offer accurate and sensitive results for contamination analysis.…”

“…In recent decades, several essential methods have been applied for the detection of penicillin G, such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC) [4], immunoassays [5], gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) [6] and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) [7]. Furthermore, compared to GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, TLC is relatively simple and inexpensive, but it is not very sensitive and efficient and cannot be used to analyze complicated substances [4].…”

“…Furthermore, compared to GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, TLC is relatively simple and inexpensive, but it is not very sensitive and efficient and cannot be used to analyze complicated substances [4]. GC-MS and LC-MS/MS separate penicillin G from sophisticated sample matrices due to the high resolution of the column, and both could precisely obtain the target for quantitation [6,7]. Additionally, the LC-MS/MS method also have the ability for qualification to detect the analyte.…”
