Multi-Channel Assessment Policies for Energy-Efficient Data Transmission in Wireless Underground Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless Underground Sensor Networks (WUGSNs) transmit data collected from underground objects such as water substances, oil substances, soil contents, and others. In addition, the underground sensor nodes transmit the data to the surface nodes regarding underground irregularities, earthquake, landslides, military border surveillance, and other issues. The channel difficulties of WUGSNs create uncertain communication barriers. Recent research works have proposed different types of channel assessment techniques… Show more

“…Let the total number of fog devices be N f . Then, the total capacity of the cloud server can be expressed in terms of fog node parameters using the Equations ( 13) and (14). So, the intermediate fog node could reduce the computation time and ease the processing and transmission delay, hence optimizing the complete communication network.…”

“…Network reliability is one of the critical requirements for IoT deployment with moderate-to-high-priority data. Hence, heterogeneity in terms of data, design, and operation has to be ensured [14]. Low latency and high accuracy are requirements in IoT-based water distribution systems for smart cities [15,16].…”

“…DL is a tool to sharpen the action produced by the agent, with random probability conditions [33]. In previous research, in the context of DRL, many used traditional supervised learning models such as SVM or random forest [34][35][36], thus the use of DL in this study is still relevant in the context of the updated method being implemented. The DL implementation in this study uses an artificial neural network (ANN), which is defined by five layers, consisting of one layer as the input layer, three layers as hidden layers, and one layer as the output layer.…”
