Multi-beam and multi-range antenna array for 24 GHz radar applications

Abstract: An 8 x 4 microstrip antenna array operating within 24 GHz frequency range has been shown. The presented antenna features two beams: a broadside beam and a dual beam. It allows for detection of targets in two different ranges and at two different angular positions. Additionally, the antenna can be used for the direction finding. The proposed antenna array uses 'through-element' series feeding technique for dissipation losses reduction as well as the stacked laminate structure to separate the radiating elements … Show more

“…Millimeter wave has the advantages of short wavelength, wide frequency band, insensitivity to fog, snow, dust and other harsh environments, and microstrip antenna has the advantages of low profile, small size, light weight, flexible design, and low cost. Therefore, the millimeter wave microstrip antenna array is applied to many practical processes, such as various radar systems, microstrip sensors, and wireless communication systems …”

“…Currently, the mainstream scheme of millimeter wave broadside antenna is microstrip array. A linearly polarized 4 × 8 microstrip antenna array and a circularly polarized 1 × 24 microstrip antenna array for 24 GHz radar applications are proposed in References and , respectively. Their simulated gains are 20.4 and 18 dBi.…”
