Multi-Band Orthogonal Linear Polarization Discrimination Planar Array Antenna

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a novel planar array antenna for multi-band linear polarization discrimination is proposed. The proposed array antenna consists of 12 patch elements and a double-balanced multiplier. A slot-ring and four diodes used in the multiplier also act as an antenna and amplitude detector, respectively. Furthermore, slot lines which are parts of feeding circuits also act as slot antennas. The Both-sided MIC technology is effectively employed to realize the feeding circuit which eliminates the ext… Show more

“…A generalized expression for such a slot generated resonance is given by Equation (5). Here, S h is the active slot length and for the first two resonances i.e., 2.6 GHz and 3.6 GHz, the values in terms of the slot parameters are given by Equations (6) And (7). Further, in these expressions, the effective relative permittivity is taken to be 1.0 since the slot fields will be mostly established in air.…”

“…In [6], a travelling wave sub-array is presented with 3:1 impedance bandwidth and isolation of around 28 dB. In [7], 12 patch elements and a double balanced multiplier were used to form an array to discriminate ±45 0 slant polarization in three frequency bands. In [8], four cross shape slots are embedded on a patch which is excited using a probe for operation at 900 MHz the isolation achieved is better than 35 dB.…”

“…Besides, k is wave vector that shows direction of wave propagation. In order to utilize spacedomain parameters expressed by such vector quantities, we previously proposed polarization switchable antennas 23 and polarization discrimination antennas 24,25 as well as an appropriate scheme of spatial modulation. 26 With these antennas, space-domain parameters are directly processed in RF band, thus making possible implementation of simple transceiver modules.…”

“…In addition, when using polarization discrimination antennas, polarization can be distinguished through direct processing of received signal in RF band. 24,25 Figure 1 shows several configurations of the active integrated antenna with oscillation and polarization switching functions. Each configuration is composed of antennas that excite two sets of orthogonal linearly polarized waves, oscillators, and modulators for polarization switching.…”
