To characterize the floristic composition and horizontal structure of the National Forest of Açú from 2015 to 2019, 20 permanent plots of 400 m² were allocated, and all woody individuals with a diameter at breast height (CBH) ≥ 2 cm were measured on both occasions. Between 2015 and 2019, there was an increase in floristic richness from 23 to 34 species, especially Cenostigma pyramidale and Handroanthus impetiginosus due to their high phytosociological values. Although an 8.7% reduction in the number of individuals in the 4.4 cm class center was observed between the respective years, there was a volumetric increase of 4.85 m³ ha -1 , that is 1.21 m³ ha -1 year -1 . Changes in floristic composition, diameter distribution, and volumetry reflect the development of vegetation and part of its dynamics; indicating its state of conservation and, consequently, the achievement of the conservation objectives proposed by the Unit.

Studying selected floristic changes in dry forests is fundamental to foster conservation and sustainability strategies. Objective: to analyze the occurrence of woody species in a tropical forest with a history of use. In 2008, 40 permanent plots were installed and wood with a circumference of 1.30 m at a breast height (CAP) ≥ 6 cm were measured. In 2012, newly established individuals (those that did not meet the size requirements in 2008 but did in 2012) and mortality of the remaining individuals were analyzed by computer. Where applicable, the density, frequency, and absolute dominance, importance value, newly established individuals, mortality, and gross growth for each species, along with the Shannon index were estimated. The floristic composition and diversity remain unchanged. After four years, there were few differences between species, while in most cases the growth in the basal area was positive and sometimes the number of newly established individuals exceeded the mortality. After 24 years of logging, the analyzed forest area did not reach its initial basal area stock when compared to other areas of the Caatinga that do not have a history of disturbance.

The increase in exploration has been changing the structure and diversity in the Caatinga fragments. The objective of this study was to evaluate the floristic composition, structure and similarity between caatinga fragments in the state of Piauí. Forty-two square plots were located 400 m2 (20 × 20m), divided into two areas, 20 plots in area I and 22 plots in area II. All living individuals with circumference at breast height (≥ 5 cm) were measured. In area I, 2,080 individuals were sampled distributed in 15 families, 34 genera and 43 species. The Shannon diversity index (H') was 2.77 nats.ind-1 and equability (J) 0.73. In area II, 1,275 individuals were measured in eight families, 20 genera and 26 species, the Shannon index (H') was 1,70 nats.ind-1, pielou's equability value 0,52. The Fabaceae family was the most representative in number of species. The two areas share few species six (9,5%), area I has the highest percentage of exclusive species 37 (58,7%) in relation to area II. The two areas have differences in floristic and structural parameters. Species diversity was considered low for normal pattern in Caatinga areas. Area I was higher than area II in density, number of families, species and diversity index, as demonstrated by the high diversity β found, are in different state of conservation and ecological succession.
