A B S T R A C TConsidering the relevant importance of guava (Psidium guajava) in Northeastern Brazil along with the benefits of neem cake amendments on soil characteristics, this work evaluated the effects of neem cake on chemical attributes of a Regosol under irrigated guava orchard in an alluvial valley of Pernambuco semi-arid region. Evaluations were carried out in two areas (area 1 -with neem cake; area 2 -without neem cake) at three periods: before the first application of neem cake, 90 days after the first application and 90 days after the second application. A regular 8 × 6-point grid was designed in each area and the soil was sampled for total organic carbon, pH, soluble salts (Na + , K + , Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ ) and total nitrogen contents, as well as soil C-CO 2 evolution rate in soil. Geostatistical analysis pointed out the spherical model as the best fit to the studied variables, followed by the Gaussian model, with ranges from 12 to 60.5 m. Neem cake incorporation increased spatial variability and the contents of the evaluated soil chemical attributes.Variabilidade espacial de atributos químicos em Neossolo no manejo da goiabeira com nim no semiárido R E S U M O Considerando a importância do cultivo de goiabeiras (Psidium guajava) para o nordeste do Brasil e os benefícios da aplicação da torta de nim nas características do solo, avaliou-se o efeito da aplicação de torta de nim nos atributos químicos de um Neossolo Regolítico cultivado com goiabeiras irrigadas no semiárido de Pernambuco. Para as avaliações foram usadas duas áreas (área 1 -com nim; área 2 -sem nim) e três períodos, antes da aplicação do nim, 90 dias após a primeira aplicação e 90 dias após a segunda aplicação; assim, 96 amostras de solo foram coletadas em duas malhas regulares de 8 × 6 pontos amostrais e realizadas análises do teor de carbono orgânico total, pH, teores de sais solúveis (Na + , K + , Ca 2+ e Mg 2+ ), nitrogênio total e taxa de evolução C-CO 2 do solo. O modelo esférico foi o que melhor se ajustou às variáveis estudadas seguido pelo gaussiano, com alcances que variaram de 12 a 60,5 m. A incorporação da torta de nim aumentou a variabilidade espacial e a oferta dos atributos de solo estudados.

Phosphorus fractions were determined in soil samples from areas fertilized or not with farmyard cattle manure (FYM) and in samples of FYM used in the semi-arid region of Paraiba state, Brazil. Soil samples were taken from the 0-20; 20-40 and 40-60 cm layers of 18 cultivated areas, which, according to interviews with farmers, had been treated with 12 to 20 t ha-1 FYM annually, for the past 2 to 40 years. Soil samples were also collected from four unfertilized pasture areas as controls. Phosphorus in the soil samples was sequentially extracted with water (Pw), resin (Pres), NaHCO3 (Pi bic and Po bic), NaOH (Pi hid and Po hid), H2SO4 (Pacid) and, finally, by digestion with H2SO4/H2O2 (Presd). Nine FYM samples were extracted with water, resin, Mehlich-1, H2SO4, NaOH or digestion with H2SO4/H2O2, not sequentially, and the extracts analyzed for P. The sampled areas had homogeneous, sandy and P-deficient soils; increases in total soil P (Pt) above the mean value of the control areas (up to 274 mg kg-1 in the 0-20 cm layer of the most P-enriched samples) were therefore attributed to FYM applications, which was the only external P input in the region. Regression analysis was used to study the relationship between soil P fractions and Pt. The Pacid fraction, related to Ca-P forms, showed the greatest increases (p < 0.01) as a result of FYM applications, rising from 8.4 mg kg-1 in a non-fertilized sample to 43.8 mg kg-1 in the sample with the highest Pt content. The sum of Pw, Pres and Pi bic, considered as labile P, showed comparable increases with Pacid, while Pi hid showed the smallest increase due to FYM applications. Organic P forms also increased, more so the fraction Po hid, considered less labile, than the more labile one, Po bic. The residual P fraction was practically half of Pt, independently of the Pt value. Increases in labile P, Pacid and organic P were justified by the high average concentration of Pw (36 %), Pacid (34 %), and Po hid (30 %) in the FYM. Significant changes in the proportion of P forms among soil layers indicated the downward movement of P in organic forms.

Resumo: Objetivou-se estudar a emergência e o crescimento inicial de plantas de milho adubadas com esterco bovino sob dois regimes hídricos. O experimento foi conduzido em condições de túnel plástico da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Campus de Pombal, Paraíba, no período de Dezembro de 2014 a janeiro de 2015. O arranjo dos tratamentos constituiu um esquema fatorial 4 x 2, correspondentes a quatro doses de esterco bovino (0,0; 4,0; 8,0 e 12 t ha -1 ) e dois níveis de água disponível de 50 e 100 % da Capacidade de campo, mantido após as irrigações do solo, com 8 tratamentos e quatro repetições, totalizando 32 unidades experimentais. O ensaio foi realizado em unidades experimentais compostas por vasos de 18 dm 3 de capacidade, semeando manualmente dez sementes por vaso. As plantas foram conduzidas por 20 dias após a semeadura, onde foram avaliadas quanto à emergência, o crescimento inicial e o acúmulo de massa seca. A redução da água disponível para 50 % da capacidade de campo não influência a emergência e o crescimento inicial do milho. A dose de 12 t ha -1 de esterco bovino favorece ao maior crescimento inicial e acúmulo de massa seca das plantas de milho cultivar AG 1051. Abstract:The objective was to study the emergence and initial growth of corn plants fertilized with bovine manure under two water regimes. The experiment was conducted under plastic tunnel conditions of the Federal University of Campina Grande, Campus of Pombal, Paraíba, from December 2014 to January 2015. The treatment arrangement consisted of a 4 x 2 factorial scheme, corresponding to four doses of bovine manure (0.0, 4.0, 8.0 and 12 t ha-1) and two levels of available water of 50 and 100% of the Field capacity, maintained after soil irrigation, with 8 treatments and four replications, totaling 32 experimental units. The experiment was carried out in experimental units composed of vessels of 18 dm3 capacity, manually seeding ten seeds per pot. The plants were conducted for 20 days after sowing, where they were evaluated for emergence, initial growth and accumulation of dry mass. Reducing available water to 50% of field capacity does not influence the emergence and initial growth of maize. The dose of 12 t ha-1 of bovine manure favors the highest initial growth and accumulation of dry mass of maize plants AG 1051.
