“…Moreover, even when used at high dosages, these treatment regimens may not be effective, as has been shown in a retrospective study of mucous membrane pemphigoid, the most common chronic ASBD of dogs. In that study, oral glucocorticoid monotherapy frequently failed to induce clinical remission . This was found in our case which improved on high doses of corticosteroids, but suffered severe adverse effects and active lesions were still present necessitating the search for another therapeutic option.…”

“…Autoimmune subepidermal blistering dermatoses (ASBD) are rare diseases of humans and animals . These diseases are characterized by the onset of vesicles and ulcerations affecting the skin and mucous membranes, and are associated with the development of autoantibodies that target specific autoantigens in the basal membrane zone (BMZ) (collagen XVII (BP180), BPAG1e (BP 230), integrin α6/β4, Laminin‐332, collagen VII) . Treatment of ASBD involves the use of immunosuppressive drugs such as high‐dose glucocorticoids, azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, methotrexate and/or cyclophosphamide .…”

“…An example of a low-risk patient, is someone who will have only oral mucosal involvement and subsequently, the treatment will be conventional. Using drugs such as dapsone, low dose prednisone, and topical glucocorticoids, in contrast to a high-risk patient, which are treated with systemic corticosteroids, IVIG, taper dapsone, or surgery as, needed [20].…”

“…Veterinarians subsequently prescribe glucocorticoids, dapsone, azathioprine, niacinamide, colchicine, and tetracycline antibiotics as treatment, much like the human equivalent. To diagnose, one should utilize DIF, IIF and serological testing [20]. As of now MMP seems to be most common bullous disease to occur in canines and this should be made aware to veterinarians worldwide to prevent further cases from going unnoticed.…”
