Mucous Cysts of the Nose: A Postrhinoplasty Complication?

Abstract: Mucous cysts are very rare complications following rhinoplasty; less than 20 cases have been reported in literature. We present 2 new cases. The first case presented a cyst located beneath the glabella and above the articulation between the spina nasalis and the os nasale. “…Endonasal intercartilagineous and intracartilagineous incisions, although they offer limited exposure, they have been used successfully for mucous cysts involving the tip and supratip regions. (Flaherty et al, 1996;Kotzur and Gubisch, 1997;Shulman and Westreich, 1983;;Dionyssopoulos et al 2010) Extracolumellar incision is used for an open rhinoplasty technique. It gives excellent exposure for complete extirpation of the lesion and reconstruction of the defect and leaves inconspicuous scars in the long run.…”

“…Both aesthetic and non-aesthetic complications of rhinoplasty have been reported. [1][2][3] Post-rhinoplasty infection of the nose is a much less frequently encountered complication, and is not well documented. Foda investigated 500 external rhinoplasty cases, and described a post-operative infection rate of 2.4 per cent.…”
