“…Ulcers that fail to respond to vagotomy and drainage do particularly badly on medical treatment (Bank, Marks, Louw, and Brom, 1969)~ and although occasionally silent (Qvist, Davis, and Fox, 1969) they remain liable to complications. I n a poor-risk patient with an uncomplicated high gastric ulcer, the risk of recurrence may be worth accepting, but, in general, vagotomy with drainage is not recommended for high ulcers.…”
