Mucosal CD30-Positive T-Cell Lymphoproliferative Disorder Arising in the Oral Cavity Following Dental Implants

Abstract: Mucosal CD30-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (CD30+ T-cell LPD) is a novel entity with unique clinicopathological features and an indolent behavior. Here we report the first case of mucosal CD30+ T-cell LPD arising in the oral cavity following dental implant. A 70-year-old woman presented with swelling and redness of the oral mucosa of right maxilla and left mandible surrounding dental implants that had been placed 8 years previously. Radiological examination revealed enhancing oral lesions and mu… Show more

“…The idea about a role of friction forces by the implants on the tissue was proposed by observing data related to other prosthetic materials used by orthopedics [ 60 , 70 , 71 , 72 ]. Actually, the cases of anaplastic large cell lymphoma ALK-negative and CD30-positive associated with other kinds of prostheses are very rare, but case reports linked to dental, gluteal, and port device implants and gastric lap bands was published from 2016 to 2019 by Yoon [ 73 ], Manikkam Umakanthan [ 74 ], Engberg [ 75 ] and Shauly [ 76 ].…”

“…27 Localized ALK-CD30+ ALCL has been described in limited case reports arising around a tibial metallic plate, dental implant, a shoulder repair, and a textured gluteal implant. [28][29][30][31] Interestingly, one case of an implant-associated ALK-CD30+ ALCL after bariatric surgery was reported, and the device was fabricated from elastopolymers similar to breast implants (Lap-Band AP; Allergan). 32 A case described by Engberg et al, presented with a unique skin ALCL in a single plague directly over an implanted chemotherapy port (product #0655640, Bard Access Systems) containing silicone and polyurethane.…”
