Muco-Cutaneous Ureterostomy: an Experimental Study for Prevention of Stomal Stenosis Using Autograft of Vaginal Vestibular Mucosa

Abstract: To prevent dermal invasion which causes gradual stomal stenosis in cutaneous ureterostomy, transplantation of autologous vaginal vestibular mucosa around the ureteral opening was examined in 9 female dogs. Results of a full-thickness graft to a full-thickness skin bed were hopeful. Though surface keratinization occurred, the thick graft survived well on the abdomen without obvious shrinkage, and the ureteral patency was maintained through the follow-up period with an average of 18 months. This method seemed to… Show more

“…In our previous report on the mucocutaneous ureterostomy, transplanta tion of an autologous vaginal vestibular mucosa to the canine abdomen has shown to protect the ureteral stoma from narrowing as long as 18 months [7], The present study was designed to establish a canine model for a long-term split renal function study, using an autograft of the entire vaginal wall as a more reliable pro tector of the ureteral stoma in cutaneous ureterostomy.…”
