Abstract

Erythema nodosum: case reportA 44-year-old woman developed erythema nodosum after receiving vaccination with mRNA-1273 for COVID-19 infection * . The woman, who had progressively worsening rash on her lower extremity, presented to the emergency department (ED). She had received the second dose of mRNA-1273 [Moderna; route and dosage not stated] vaccine. She developed rash 7 days after receiving the second vaccination dose and initially presented to her primary care physician. Following presentation in the ED, examinations showed stable vital signs. Physical examination was notable for multiple, tender, non-blanchable 6-8cm erythematous nodules on the bilateral calves and shins. No abnormalities were noted during laboratory examinations at the primary care physician. Her only notable finding was elevated C-reactive protein of 23.5 mg/L. Based on the symptoms and investigations, a diagnosis of erythema nodosum secondary to mRNA-1273 vaccination was considered.The woman was discharged on supportive care with unspecified non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [outcome not stated].
