MRI detection of myocardial perfusion changes by gadolinium‐DTPA infusion during dipyridamole hyperemia

Abstract: To detect abnormal regional myocardial coronary flow reserve, serial spin-echo MR tomograms of four control dogs and six with a partial balloon occlusion of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery were acquired before and after dipyridamole infusion and during the paramagnetic effect of a bolus plus infusion of gadolinium-DTPA. Microsphere myocardial blood flow was measured for correlation with serial regional changes in MR signal intensity. Significant difference in gadolinium-enhanced MR signal in… Show more

“…In myocarditis, T2-weighted imaging may detect tissue edema, which is usually absent in ARVC [104]. In addition, fast spin-echo T1-weighted images during the first minutes after contrast injection may be useful to detect myocardial hyperemia and muscular inflammation suggestive of myocarditis [104],[105]. In equivocal cases, invasive studies such as electroanatomic mapping and endomyocardial biopsy may provide a more definite diagnosis [63].…”

“…6 -12 Parameters for the assessment of myocardial perfusion are usually gained by analyzing the first pass of a contrast agent bolus through the myocardium. 6,9,13,14 With extensive modeling, quantitative determination of myocardial perfusion is possible; however, this approach relies on several assumptions that may not be fulfilled in patients. 13,[15][16][17] We have recently shown that a linear fit of the upslope is easy to perform, is highly reproducible, and shows promising accuracy in a selected patient population.…”

“…Lately, DP with cardiac MRI has been investigated for the detection of coronary artery disease [14,15,18,[22][23][24], Baer et al [18] have reported the overall sensitivity of DP C-MRI for the detection of coronary artery disease to be 78%. They found the sensitivity/specificity of DP C-MRI for localization of the disease to range from 73/87 to 100/100% for the 3 main coronary artery territories.…”
