The specificity of the MR analysis was improved by combining T 1 -weighted images with DWIs [91]. “…35 MRI is a useful radiation-free alternative for multiple follow-up examinations because regular follow-up scans to monitor treatment response are necessary. 36 However, both whole-body MR imaging and FDG PET showed a higher sensitivity than standard bone scintigraphy for the detection of bone metastases in children and young adults in the study of Daldrup-Link et al 37 In children, the differentiation between highly cellular hematopoietic and neoplastic marrow may be facilitated by in-phase and out-of-phase pulse sequences of MR imaging, which only reduce the signal intensity of hematopoietic macrophage-containing marrow but not of neoplastic marrow. 38 Therefore, for the evaluation of bone metastases in both children and adults, the combination of FDG PET and MRI may be very useful.…”
