MRC OX-22, a monoclonal antibody that labels a new subset of T lymphocytes and reacts with the high molecular weight form of the leukocyte-common antigen.

Abstract: Thymus-derived cells of the mouse, rat, and human can be divided, on the basis of differential expression of cell surface antigens, into phenotypically distinct subsets, and this phenotypic heterogeneity is correlated with functional differences (1-3). In the rat, the monoclonal antibody W3/25 (5) has been shown to label the T subset that contains helper cells for B cells (5) and cytotoxic T cells (6, 7) and also cells that mediate graft-versus-host (GvH) 1 reactivity (5). The monoclonal antibody MRC OX-8 labe… Show more

“…HIS25 (CD45RC; LCA isotype present on all Tcyt/suppr., part of Th and all B cells) [46] and HIS51 (Thy1.1, within the TCR + cell population specific for RTE) [47] were produced by the Department of Histology, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. W3/25 (CD4) [48], OX6 (RT1B; MHC class II) [49], OX22 (CD45RC) [50] and OX35 (CD4) [14] were obtained from the European Collection of Animal Cell Culture (Salisbury, UK). “…LCA occurs in several molecular weight forms. Only the low molecular weight forms are expressed on CFU-S. B cells and a subset of T-cells that mediate graft versus host disease (20). The ability to label CFU-S with more than one fluorochrome-conjugated monoclonal antibody has allowed us to purify CFU-S from normal, rather than cortisonetreated, rats by histogram pattern recognition and dualparameter immunofluorescence sorting (16).…”
