MRA of Intracranial Aneurysm Models: A Comparison of Contrast-Enhanced Three-Dimensional MRA with Time-of-Flight MRA

Abstract: Use of contrast-enhanced multiphase 3D MRA with ultrafast SPGR with shorter TR and TE resulted in clear images of the lateral saccular aneurysm model.

“…To identify patients harboring unruptured aneurysms among the numerous persons admitted to the emergency department for headaches that mimic SAH, accurate noninvasive imaging methods that allow assessment of intracranial aneurysms are of considerable interest. 38,39 Noninvasive screening methods currently under investigation include the following: CT angiography,2,11,[14][15][16]20,22,25,27,[33][34][35][36][37]3,4,6,12,17,18,23,24,26,[29][30][31]13,32 Compared with conventional IADS angiography, CT angiography is simpler and quicker to organize and perform. In the emergency setting, CT angiography can be performed immediately after a diagnosis of SAH has been given based on a routine nonenhanced CT scan of the brain.…”

“…If signal loss of the internal carotid artery on one side is still observed even when non-sliceselective MTC is turned off or when the SORS pulse is on, 2D or 3D phase-contrast MRA should be performed. Contrast-enhanced 3D MRA has been reported to be relatively insensitive to local field inhomogeneity and saturation effects [9,10]; thus, contrast-enhanced 3D MRA without a fat-suppression pulse may also be useful, although we do not demonstrate this in the experiments described herein.…”

“…Rather, use of multiphase enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), which offers wide coverage and time resolution with fast scan sequences, has been reported. 3,4 However, the more recently developed MDCT also provides wide coverage and high temporal resolution. We used the toggling-table technique to double detector width and scanned an area 80 mm wide in the z-axis.…”
