MPEG-based personalized content delivery

Abstract: In this paper, we present a personalized multimedia content delivery system dealing with both user preferences and terminal/network capabilities. In order to ease interoperability with third-party applications, content annotation, user preferences handling and terminal/network capabilities description are managed by MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 standards. Offline content adaptation and annotation tools are proposed for content preparation. Content delivery is handled by a client-server architecture. This architecture is… Show more

“…These challenges were in many cases mainly tackled with the development of (proprietary) low-level stream adaptation algorithms. Only few projects are known at the moment that try to exploit the extended metadata annotation possibilities available with the new MPEG standards; examples are the ViTooKi 13 Video Tool Kit project [19,31] or the work described in [32].…”

“…Once the time has run, if this variation has been requested several (configurable) times it will be kept in the database, otherwise it will be eliminated. Streiger et al [16] present a personalized multimedia content delivery system dealing with both user preferences and terminal network capabilities using both MPEG-7 and MPEG-21. Initial user preferences are acquired by means of a form, which asks the user to prioritize his preferences for categories such as content topic, language, and source.…”

“…36 Most systems propose efficient algorithms to transcode videos but do not consider the semantic content of the videos. [37][38][39] Other approaches identify the semantic content in videos and emphasize important details in the adapted video. [39][40][41] Objects and special events indicate regions of interest.…”
