Move-it sticky notes providing active physical feedback through motion

Abstract: Post-it notes are a popular paper format that serves a multitude of purposes in our daily lives, as they provide excellent affordances for quick capturing of informal notes, and location-sensitive reminding. In this paper, we present Move-it, a system that combines Post-it notes with a technologically enhanced paperclip to demonstrate how a passive piece of paper can be turned into an "active" medium that conveys information through motion. We present two application examples that investigate the applicability… Show more

“…The circumstance of having to notify or remind users at times when they are away from a display has also been investigated, including vibrating wearables [9] and LEDs [1, 8, 14-16, 25, 56, 61]. A related stream of research addresses communicating information without having to capture the user's attention at all [2,3,10,29,30,46].…”

A board comprised of actuated post-its enables novel ways of browsing post-its active curl actuation, capacitive touch sensing -The ubiquity of Post-It notes inspired several projects that digitally augment [25] or even physically actuate them [30]. In this example, we show a Post-It system that enables the notes to curl up individually in order to structure or order content ( Figure 13).…”

“…Saul et al describe several types of paper designs for actuation and interactive systems by instructing with LED lights for folding [7], and with the SMA to actuate the paper [12,18,19,21,28]. Though ideas of using SMA tend to use wired designs for the paper, Koizumi et al [12] consider a wireless method for moving the paper with SMA heating by laser irradiation.…”

“…There are some existing concepts of enhancing regular paper such as moving or shape-changing functions [3]. In many cases, shape memory alloy (SMA) or other kinds of temperaturecontrolled materials are attached on the paper for deformation [12,18,19]. The system can control and change paper shape by adding heat with electricity or laser to the material.…”
