Mouth cavity base defect treated with biosynthetic graft

Abstract: The use of in vitro prepared biosynthetic grafts can considerably improve the patient's quality of life. This work reports on the use of an autologous graft prepared from a patient's preputial cells cultivated on biodegradable polymeric membrane. Coladerm membrane is based on the chemically modified polyelectrolyte complex of atelocollagen and hyaluronan. The graft was used to cover a defect in the mouth cavity base and tongue after reconstruction surgery performed at this site in the past. The presented clini… Show more

“…There have been several studies reporting the intravenous or intradermal application of MSCs to improve the cutaneous wound healing of acute incisional and excisional wounds, diabetic ulcers, radiation ulcers, and acute or chronic skin injuries in humans and animals, including burn injuries 23,[28][29][30] . In the present study, the application of adipose-derived MSCs was found to diminish the burn site in burn wounds in rats, and provided a significantly higher degree of healing (p<0.05).…”

“…We evaluated foot posture from the rear as we focused on the ankle joint: a) (1 point)slim ankles touching each other, good upright posture, b) (2 points) -ankles are slightly turned inwards, c) (3 points) -ankles roll excessively inwards, overpronated feet collapse inwards, bad posture. Pain intensity was measured by means of the visual analogue scale (VAS) -an 11-point Likert scale: 0 = no pain, 10 = pain as bad as it could possibly be (Vojtaššák, 2000).…”

“…Following 29 days of the treatment, there was a steady overall reduction in the wound size, yet an increase in the dermal vascularity and thickness at the wound area. [232] One potential drawback in MSC therapy is their low viability after implantation, which lessens their safety profile over a long period. Nevertheless, several strategies have been suggested to enhance the survival of MSCs after transplantation.…”
