“…In Thailand, German et al (2006) has examined the impact of "community stigma" on a purposeful sample of 48 Thai users of methamphetamine and, while finding some influence on cessation motivation, the researchers cautioned that this strategy may interfere with users' ability and willingness to access support services or treatment. Notably, McLellan (2002) advocates an approach to drug user treatment that could eventually address stigmatization by changing the way the public views drug use and addiction.…”

“…Many studies have showed association between new type of drug use and risky sexual behaviors, such as unprotected sexual behaviors and sex with multiple concurrent partners [12][13][14][15][16]. The combination of using these new types of drugs and engaging in commercial sex could be a major potential driving force for the continued expansion of the HIV and other STDs epidemics in China.…”

“…Research on addiction recovery indicates there are multiple pathways to achieving sustained abstinence, with influences varying across individuals, substances and contexts; and although drug treatment may be an important contributing factor, it represents only one of the paths to recovery (German et al 2006; Laudet,Savage & Mahmood 2002). Klingemann (2012) suggests recovery from alcohol dependence appears over time as an interplay between individual actions, societal reactions and positive and negative life events, while subjective accounts of recovery maintenance are being continuously constructed and reconstructed.…”
