ABSTRAKPenelitian ini meneliti aktivitas antelmintik albendazole dan levamisole terhadap hambatan motilitas, percepatan waktu paralisis, dan motilitas cacing Ascaridia galli dewasa secara in vitro. Sebanyak empat ekor cacing masing dibuat triplikat dalam NaCl 0,9% masing-masing dengan konsentrasi 15 mg/ ml Albendazole, dan 0.6 mg/ml Levamisole. Motilitas cacing diamati pada interval 10, 20, 30, dan 40 jam. Paralisis dan kematian diamati pada tampilan tidak ada pergerakan badan pada bagian kepala dan ekor cacing. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas albendazole dan levamisole terhadap mortalitas A. galli berturut-turut terjadi pada 40 dan 30 jam pasca inkubasi. Levamisole dapat menghambat motilitas A. galli pada jam ke 10 dan juga menyebabkan lebih awal paralisis pada 6,75 ± 0,50 jam pasca inkubasi. Kajian tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa aktivitas antelmintik levamisole lebih awal dibandingkan efek albendazole pada cacing A. galli.Kata kunci: Ascaridia galli, motilitas, paralisis, mortalitas, anthelmintik ABSTRACTThis research investigated the anthelmintic activity of albendazole and levamisole on the inhibition of motility, acceleration of paralysis, and mortality of Ascaridia galli adult worms in vitro. An amount of four worms were exposed in triplicate to each of concentration 15 mg/ml albendazole, and 0.6 mg/ ml levamisole. The motility of worms were observed on 10, 20, 30, and 40 hours interval. The paralysis and mortality of worms were easily recognized by their straight flat appearance with no movements at the head and tail regions of the body. The result of the present investigation revealed that the activity of albendazole and levamisole on the mortality of A. galli occured at 40 and 30 hours after incubation respectively. The levamisole was able to inhibit motility of A. galli at 10 hours and also caused paralysis as early as 6,75 ± 0.50 hours after incubation. The conclusion of our study suggests that the levamisole could potentially improve the ascaridosis treatment. It is important to emphasize that care should be taken in case of using levamisole in the treatment of ascaridiosis.

Veitchia merrilli (Becc) H. E. Moore is a palm tree widely used in gardening. Due to the continuous production of flowers on the inflorescences, there are fruits and seeds in various stages of maturation on the same plant, making it hard to determine the best fruit maturation stage for obtaining vigorous seeds. This study measured the biometric characteristics of the fruit at different stages of maturation and identified the best fruit maturation stage from which to obtain seeds with optimal physiological quality. Mature fruits were harvested from the tops of 10 trees and the ground, categorized according to their maturation stage and measured for overall length, equatorial diameter, and fresh weight. An experiment to identify the best fruit maturation stage for obtaining seeds of the V. merrilli with satisfactory physiological quality was carried out in a greenhouse, with five treatments (maturation stage) and ten replications; each plot was composed of 20 seeds. Plant height, root length, stem diameter, root and above ground dry weight, total dry weight, and Dickson’s quality index were measured. The green fruit stage is the most suitable for obtaining seeds of V. merrilli with the best physiological qualities. The fruits at the dark red maturity stage had the greatest length, while the those in the green transition stage had the greatest diameter and fresh weight.
