As diferenças individuais da qualidade da vinculação representam condições iniciais que, em contexto de interação entre factores biológicos e ambientais, desempenham um papel dinâmico no funcionamento bio-psico-social do indivíduo. Este artigo apresenta uma breve revisão de literatura da teoria e investigação da vinculação na infância e pretende contribuir para uma perspectiva desenvolvimental na prática clínica. A investigação na vinculação tem-nos esclarecido, sobre os efeitos nas crianças de experiências precoces associadas a: (a) rotinas de cuidados fora de casa; (b) separações; (c) disfunções significativas de prestação de cuidados; (d) características das crianças com necessidades especiais. Apresentamos ainda orientações para a prática clínica dada a centralidade dos aspectos relacionais no desenvolvimento saudável das crianças.

IntroduçãoA vinculação é um tipo específico de um conjunto mais vasto de ligações que Bowlby e Ainsworth designaram por "ligações afectivas". Segundo Ainsworth (1985) o conceito de vinculação pode ser definido de acordo com um conjunto de critérios, segundo os quais esta ligação afectiva: (a) é persistente e não transitória; (b) envolve uma figura específica e reflete uma atração que um indivíduo tem por outro indivíduo; (c) é uma relação emocionalmente significativa; (d) o indivíduo deseja manter a proximidade ou contacto com essa figura, ainda que tal possa variar em função de vários factores (e.g., idade, o estado do indivíduo ou as condições do meio); (e) o indivíduo experiencia uma certa perturbação face a uma situação de separação involuntária e, sobretudo, quando deseja a proximidade e tal não lhe é possível; (f) existe uma procura de segurança e de conforto na relação com essa pessoa. Este último critério é determinante para a referência e distinção entre "Ligações parentais" e "Vinculação das crianças aos pais" (Cassidy, 1999). Bowlby (1969Bowlby ( /1982) teorizou a vinculação como sendo um sistema motivacional, que tem como objectivo a proteção e o reconforto da criança. Enquanto sistema motivacional ele é complementar do sistema de exploratório da criança e do sistema de caregiving dos progenitores (i.e., prestação de cuidados). Ainsworth (1973) introduziu um conceito de "base segura", que nos ajuda a compreender o comportamento exploratório da criança. A figura de vinculação assume o papel de "base segura" quando se apresenta na relação com a criança como estando disponível e em proximidade, de forma a poder assegurar a sua protecção, sempre que necessário, e quando solicitado.
