“…Condon went through multiple steps to establish MAAS, first she piloted it on 54 women to collect evidence of face validity; then, the items were reduced to 27 (87). Then, she recruited a sample size of 112 pregnant women to fill out the MAAS; after this, Condon reduced the items to 19 (82) to reach desired internal consistency " Cronbach's alpha which was 0.82 " and study power 0.80 (82), and a construct validity was performed by factor analysis; it concluded that the MAAS had two factors: quality and duration of the bond (89). This tool has been adapted and used in Holland (2010) (90), Hungary (2014) (91), and Turkey (2014) (92), (see Table 1.1 below).…”

“…Some researchers have criticized Condon's MAAS. For example, Zimerman and Doan (89) questioned the reliability and validity of MAAS based upon their experience using the MAAS in a study which aimed to examine the MFA between three groups of women (primigravid women, multiparous women with "healthy" children, and multiparous women with children diagnosed with Down's syndrome) (82). They used the MAAS to measure MFA at two time points -following the first measurement of MFA, primigravid women had higher scores and showed more attachment, while at the second time point, no differences were observed between groups (82).…”

“…We were unable to examine how the NICU interacts with mother-infant bonding, either due to the short study period itself, which was only three days postpartum, or because the simple survey we used was not sensitive enough (Perrelli, Zambaldi, Cantilino, & Sougey, 2014). This research question could not be answered adequately with this data, making it a limitation of the study design.…”
