“…Irrespective of the type of reconstructive surgery chosen, control of infection is a crucial point in the management of patients with third‐degree burns. Not only does sepsis remain the predominant cause of death from extensive burns (1), but also the local infection impairs wound healing both by directly damaging the tissues through the activity of various toxins and proteases and, mostly, by promoting a prolonged inflammatory response (2).
