Mortality Prediction Utilizing Blood Biomarkers to Predict the Severity of COVID-19 Using Machine Learning Technique

Abstract: Healthcare researchers have been working on mortality prediction for COVID-19 patients with differing levels of severity. A rapid and reliable clinical evaluation of disease intensity will assist in the allocation and prioritization of mortality mitigation resources. The novelty of the work proposed in this paper is an early prediction model of high mortality risk for both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients, which provides state-of-the-art performance, in an external validation cohort from a different populati… Show more

“…Machine learning is a trusted method to accurately estimate behaviors of different phenomena ranging from disease identification [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ] and privacy-preserving healthcare [ 27 , 28 ] to sustainable development [ 29 ]. As previously noted, this study constructs different machine learning methods and compares their accuracies to identify the most trustworthy topology for calculating the relative crystallinity of pure PLLA and PLLA/PGA composites.…”

“…Providing the ML classifier with a large number of features could lead to overfitting and lower performance as the excess information might provide contradictory details and confuse the classifier [23,[45][46][47][48]. With the help of feature ranking techniques, the classifiers can be provided with the important features and their performance can be checked accordingly.…”

“…Hence, several promising avenues have been explored on the alternate COVID-19 detection systems for such resource constraint environments. An early detection system [ 15 ] and a mortality prediction system [ 16 ] for COVID-19 infection were proposed using blood biomarkers.…”
